New and used semi-trailers: what were bought in June? Top 20 brands

Experts of the Auto Market Research Institute analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in June and identified the top brands in three segments of semi-trailers: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.

Dynamics of the semi-trailer market

Since the semi-trailer market is inextricably linked with the sale of semi-trailer trucks, the same processes are followed: yes, activity in this segment increased in June. During the first month of summer 2023Ukrainians bought 3.8 thousand new and used semi-trailers. This is the same as for the same period last year in 2022, and by 18.8% more than in May 2023.

According to the results of June, 54.9% of all semi-trailers were bought on the domestic market (2.1 thousand transactions). 1.4 thousand used semi-trailers were brought from abroad, which was 37.3% of the total number. This is the lowest since the start of the full-scale invasion.

7.8% of semi-trailers were purchased new(293 pcs.). Of them, 41 pieces were made in Ukraine, and the remaining 252 pieces. were imported new from abroad.

The most popular semi-trailers on the domestic market

Tipper semi- trailers were the most in demand on the domestic market in June. 26.2% or 544 units purchased these. quantitatively Also popular were container carriers (311 units, 15%) and flatbed semi-trailers ( 13.5%, 281 units).

Flatbed (8.7%, 180 pcs.) and awning semi-trailers also made it to the top 5(6.9%, 144 units).

As for brands, the German Shmitz remains the leader of the domestic semi-trailer market. Among all semi-trailers, they were 17% (354 units).

The second and third places were also occupied by German brands — Krone (233 units, 11.2%, +1 position) and Koegel (208 units, 10%, -1 position), respectively.

Austrian Schwarzmuller (97 units, 4.7%) was in fourth place, and Polish Bodex was in fifth place (95 units, 4.6%).

The most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad

During June 2023, the most imported semi-trailers were dump trucks (34.9%, 493 units) and awning semi-trailers (20.6%, 291 units).

The list also included awning platforms (10%, 141 units), container carriers (7.7%, 109 units) and refrigerator semi- trailers (7%, 99 units).

The first in the list of the most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad was the Shmitz brand. Its share was 24.5% (346 units).

The second place was taken by the Krone brand (118 units, 8.3%). Koegel was in third place (114 units, 8.1%), and Fruehauf was in fourth place (52 units, 3.7%).

Rounding out the top five is Wielton (46 units, 3.3%).

The most popular new semi-trailers

Almost half of all new semi-trailers sold in June are tipper semi- trailers (182 units, 45.8% ). Another 20.4% was occupied by tank semi- trailers (81 units).

The third place with a share of 10.6% (42 pcs.) was taken by awning semi-trailers, and the fourth place by awning platforms (37 pcs., 9.3% ). Rounding out the top 5 are van semi- trailers (34 units, 8.6% ).

The ranking of new semi-trailer brands was led by German Shmitz (27.2%, 122 units), Wielton (8.5%, 38 units) took second place, and Everlast (7.6%, 34 units) took third place.

The Bodex brand (7.6%, 34 units) is on the fourth step, and Zaslaw is on the fifth (6.7%, 30 units).
